Article, Para.:" The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to education. They agree that education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and the sense of its dignity, and shall strengthen the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. They further agree that education shall enable all persons to participate effectively in a free society, promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations and all racial, ethnic or religious groups, and further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace."

General Comment No., Para.:" In the Committee's view, corporal punishment is inconsistent with the fundamental guiding principle of international human rights law enshrined in the Preambles to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and both Covenants: the dignity of the individual. Other aspects of school discipline may also be inconsistent with human dignity, such as public humiliation. Nor should any form of discipline breach other rights under the Covenant, such as the right to food. A State party is required to take measures to ensure that discipline which is inconsistent with the Covenant does not occur in any public or private educational institution within its jurisdiction. The Committee welcomes initiatives taken by some States parties which actively encourage schools to introduce" positive", non- violent approaches to school discipline."

General Comment No., Para.:" The provision for the reduction of the stillbirth rate and of infant mortality and for the healthy development of the child"( art..) a ) (may be understood as requiring measures to improve child and maternal health, sexual and reproductive health services, including access to family planning, pre- and post- natal care, emergency obstetric services and access to information, as well as to resources necessary to act on that information."
